Some wishes come true, some become toxic....

We met on the verge of losing our lives. Somehow, the tattered strings of our tragedies tangled into an unlikely bond. All the stars were aligned, or maybe it was the breaking point of our addictions that brought us together. It was our love for music that solidified our bond, and he became my best friend. We had the same birthday. 11-11. We made wishes to each other that felt more like promises. The biggest one of all was to get married to each other by the age of 22 if we both weren't already. I kept my end of the bargain. He did not.

I was forced to deal with the consequences.

Five years later, I’m back in my hometown, where the pain feels just as familiar as the memories. When I find myself caught in the middle of my parent's failing marriage, I’m willing to do anything to stay away from them.

When my friend comes up with a solution, it all seems too good to be true. But my long-life wish quickly becomes my nightmare when I’m forced to live with the landlord, who also happens to be the quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals.

I despise football players.

But that’s not the worst part... He’s also my best friend's older brother.
